Soda Bomb at Maxwells on July 17th, 2013 in New Jersey.
I’ve been to many good shows at Maxwells. Last summer I went to one that was not. Two songs in, my friend’s guitar string broke and in a bitchy rage he threw his instrument onto the ground. The neck cracked and he cancelled the rest of the show. I was out $20 and I vowed never to support his band again.
This summer when I heard that Maxwells was shutting down, I knew that I could not let my last show there be the worst concert that I had ever been to in my life. I looked at the list of available dates, and picked the Gay Blades based on name recognition alone. The band played well past midnight, and I was a tired old man who did not appreciate all of the talking.
Thankfully, regardless of the main attraction on the bill, I had a great time with the opening act. It was the vocalist’s birthday, and he chose to spend the occasion with us, putting on a very good show.
