RE: Reblogs are stupid

I guess you can only reply to a post once? Weird. Then I got busy. But then I finished. This is a continuation of my reply to your post “I Will Follow You into the Dark” in which you express your adamant opposition to reblogging and the general lack of what you deem original content on tumblr. It should be mentioned that Tumblr is first and foremost a micro-blogging platform that allows for long, text based posts (as well as original photography, music, etc. of course) however, its main function is to act as a sort of content aggregator. The whole point of tumblr is to cycle through blogs, find content you like, and then choose (or not) to cycle that content to your followers. This is why there is no such thing as a private tumblr. Indeed, this is why the site is called tumblr. The idea is to “tumble” content across the platform to increase its visibility and to start a “conversation” about said content amongst users. But! All this content has to come from a source, right?  So where does that leave us? You fall into the category of a primary creator, whereas a much larger number of users fall under the categories of what I’d call secondary creators and receivers/followers /cyclers. This would explain your distaste for non-primary creators, since you are one.

So while your opinion is understandable to a certain degree, the problem is that you don’t really understand tumblr.

Wordpress or blogger would be better suited for you, I think, if the reblog thing really bothers you as much as I think that it does.

Response after the break.

This is the first text submission I have ever received on this website, and dare I say it’s better than nudes. Hopefully nobody is offended by that statement. I know I choose to blog on this website because the interface is nice and this is where people are. It’s nice to hear the opinion of somebody else on what tumblr is and a suggestion of where I might be better suited. But I don’t think that I would want to relocate. I know that you’re spelling out for me that my idea of tumblr is incorrect, and that it is going to leave me a little bit frustrated because I find displeasure in the fundamental design of this website, but I would rather just choose to believe that this site is flexible enough where you can make whatever you want to make from it. And I am choosing to fight to have a dashboard full of primary content creators.

Edit: you know I just wanted to add that I am slightly confused by the statement that “there is no such thing as a private tumblr.” Because I have seen private, password protected tumblr accounts before. I am just not sure what you meant there.
